Mamalilikala Hereditary Chief & Knowledge Holder




Ttakwagila, Arthur Manuel Dick, is one of the
Mamalilikala Hereditary Chiefs of Village Island, BC.
The Mamalilikala are a division of the Kwakwaka' wakw First Nations people. Art was also registered into the Namgis First Nation at the age of fourteen and also sits as an elected band Councillor for the Namgis Nation. In the videos below, Art shares stories about hunting, fishing and living off the land with his grandfather. Art grew up on Village Island, before moving to Alert Bay as a teenager, and is now one of the youngest traditional speakers of Kwak'wala language in the area.
